Faculty to Purdue
Claudia Dicken, Villa mathematics teacher, and Stephanie Moore, Director of Instructional Technology, have been invited by Purdue University to present a white paper on the topic of pen-based computing at the First Workshop on the Impact of Pen-based Technology on Education (WIPTE). Dicken and Moore traveled to West Lafayette, Indiana April 5-7 to present their paper entitled, “Tablet PC: Changing the Way Students Learn and Teachers Teach at Villa Duchesne/Oak Hill School.”
Villa Duchesne is one of two nationally recognized high schools represented at the conference. Experts from other universities (an impressive list that includes Clemson, Stanford, Purdue, University of Massachusetts, Georgia, Virginia, Washington, Richmond, Michigan, MIT and more) and corporations including Microsoft and Hewlett-Packard will come together to “examine the possibility that the use of pen-based computing, such as Tablet PC, ‘radically’ enhances learning by incorporating different mechanisms.”
According to the WIPTE web site, “A wide variety of disciplines are embracing Tablet PCs and similar pen-based devices as tools for the radical enhancement of teaching and learning. This conference is intended to leverage this shared passion and to identify best practices in the educational use of pen-based computing so that all educators may benefit from this next generation of technology.”
