After high school Patrick attended Truman State University where he attained a Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science. He participated in cross country, indoor track and field, and outdoor track and field for four years each. His freshman year he earned Junior All-American honors at the USATF Junior Nationals in the steeplechase. His junior year he helped his team place fourth at the 2001 DII NCAA Cross Country Championships. And his senior year he was an All-American in the Steeplechase at the 2003 DII NCAA Track and Field Championships. Upon graduation Patrick worked as a para-educator in the Francis Howell School District. His wonderful experiences there led him to return to school to earn a degree in education. At the University of Missouri at St. Louis he earned a degree in Physical Education grades K-12 and is now state certified in P.E. and Health.
